(ED:)
What do you think of MDMA? Ketamine?

(Bear:)
Neither are psychedelics, and both cause severe damage to the body and the mind. John Lilly is an example, the poor bastard, of ketamine damage. I recommend that you stay strictly away from these un-natural chemicals, not found in any analog in any natural source. By the way acid is considered by Hofmann to be a perfectly natural substance, he feels that as we test more and more of the millions of plants not yet investigated, we will undoubtedly find it. It has the most positive normal/iso partition of all the derivatives of lysergic acid in solution, 12 to 88 percent in favour of the active form.

(ED:)
What do you think of the work of Dr. Alexander Shulgin & Ann Shulgin?

(Bear:)
Sasha is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met. I don't approve of the semi-fictionalization of the characters in his writing, as it is patently obvious who are the actors. But in his own way he too, is standing to be counted.

(ED:)
Do you ever do any acid these days?

(Bear:)
Is the Pope Catholic? Does he still go to Mass?

(ED:)
That's what we were hoping to hear. What do you think about marijuana? Do you smoke it when you are in countries in which it is legal?

(Bear:)
There are NO countries where it is legal, thanks to the treaty. Read my essay on “A Crime Against Nature” if you want to know what I think about this wonderful gift to man from the world of plants.

(ED:)
We understand the situation in Holland...the “illegal but not prosecuted” status. Which brings us to LSD. Do you think we'll ever be able to legally use LSD?

(Bear:)
All bad dreams come to an end with morning.

(ED:)
It's been a long time coming...Is LSD still the way? Is it preferable to, say, mushrooms or peyote?

(Bear:)
As a Roadman in the Native American Church once told me, there is no difference other than the traditions, with respect to the effects, and that he would not hesitate to use acid in the event that there was no peyote available.
