Page 5 of 9 (ED:) Have you ever tried Ayahuasca? The two main plants of the brew (Banisteriopsis caapi and Psychotria viridis) contain DMT, and the MAO inhibitors Harmine and Harmaline. (Bear:) Actually the active materials are the harmine and DMT. No. (ED:) Have you ever done any plant extractions? Do you have any tips you can share with our readers? We are interested in learning how to extract the alkaloids from plants such as Salvia divinorum, Heimia Salicifolia, Psychotria viridis, Phalaris grass, Hawaiian Baby Woodrose seeds, Morning Glory seeds, etc. These are plants that the government has not restricted...yet.
“I am not now, nor have I ever been, a chemist. I am an artist, and one of my skills is being able to cook.” - Bear (Bear:) You are mistaken, all these are restricted in terms of what they contain, which is specified (in effect) as “whatever is going to make you high”. You cannot make an end run around these laws, they need to be removed completely from the books. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a chemist. I am an artist, and one of my skills is being able to cook. Making acid is usually called, with good reason, “cooking”. I have managed to make extracts from cannabis, both an oil from hash, and a butterfat extract from leaves. The latter by boiling the leaves with ghee and water, expressing the liquid out and chilling it to separate the solidified butterfat/resin and then reboiling the fat with slightly salted water to wash it free of fat-insolubles. This works extremely well, and is great for making cookies and candies. (More cooking!). Ask Sasha about the proper techniques to extract materials from plants. Read my essay on the proposal for legalization: “WIN THE WAR WITH NO CASUALITIES” as to just how far you should be allowed to go in making a concentration of active portions before you enter the realm of “chemicals”. Think of the difference between opium and morphine. (ED:) Yes, we've heard that before. The substances are illegal, the plants are not--unless you plan on using them to get high.
