I've been cultivating various Trichs for about 3 years. My Pachs are huge; up to 8 feet and fat as hell. I have one T. Peru. which is big, fat, blue and happy...and about 5' tall. All have produced pups. I purchased these as 2' specimens or made large cuttings (up to 3') from well established Cacti. Since then I have started dozens of smaller cuttings and they are all very fast growing.

From the first I've had a Bridgessi which started as a 8" rooted cutting approx. 1 1/2" in diameter, which is now about 30" tall but only about 2" in diameter. The column is even thickness and the specimen appears healthy and is in the same location as several of the others. It's growth rate is obviously much slower than the rest.

Why is it so puny? Does it need more than the morning sun the others thrive on? Is it less frost tolerent? Less heat tolerant? Any advice?

I'm thinking about putting it inside in a South window for the winter. The others are all outside.

As Wall Street Posts Record Profits and US Hunger Rate Grows, Robert Scheer Asks: “Where Is the Community Organizer We Elected?”

\A pair of new government reports released this week paint a startling picture more than a year after the economic meltdown. On Tuesday, the New York Comptroller Office said Wall Street profits are set to exceed the record set three years ago. The four largest firms took in $22.5 billion in profits through September. Meanwhile, far more people are going hungry in the United States than previously thought. The Department of Agriculture estimates 50 million Americans, including a quarter of all children, struggled to get enough to eat last year. We speak to veteran journalist Robert Scheer.

AMY GOODMAN: We turn now to the latest on the economy. A pair of new government reports released this week paint a startling picture of where the country is, more than a year after the economic meltdown. On Tuesday, the New York Comptroller’s Office said Wall Street profits are set to exceed the record set three years ago. The four largest firms—Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase—took in $22.5 billion in profits through September. The top six banks set aside $112 billion for salaries and bonuses over the same period. In a recent interview, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, Lloyd Blankfein, defended the bank’s massive profits, saying Goldman is, quote, “doing God’s work."

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture has revealed that far more people are going hungry in the United States than previously thought. The Department estimates 50 million Americans, including a quarter of all children, struggled to get enough to eat last year. The number of children who live in households in which food at times was scarce last year stands at 17 million, an increase of four million children in just a year.

Our next guest has been closely following the impact and causes of the economic meltdown. Robert Scheer, editor at Truthdig.com, author of many books, including The Pornography of Power: How Defense Hawks Hijacked 9/11 and Weakened America. His latest column is called “Where Is the Community Organizer We Elected?” He joins me here in Burbank, California.

Welcome to Democracy Now!, Robert Scheer. OK, just talk about these figures, from hunger to Goldman Sachs.

ROBERT SCHEER: Well, first of all, I mean, the whole thing about the profit of Wall Street that makes it particularly obscene is that we gave them that money. Your previous guest talked about how China is carrying $800 billion of our debt. We’re running up a $1.4 trillion deficit. And what happened was, we threw a lot of money at Wall Street. In particular, in relation to Goldman, we had this buyout of AIG, $180 billion. We’ve guaranteed the toxic assets of these enterprises. And that money, in a really truly shameful way, was passed on directly to the very companies that you mentioned that are giving themselves profits. So there’s something—yes, I’ll use the word “obscene.”

It’s also interesting that he should say he’s “doing God’s work,” Blankfein, the head of Goldman Sachs. And my goodness, if Scripture is clear on anything, it’s condemnation of those who take advantage of the poor. You know, after all, Jesus threw the money changers out of the temple. Scripture is devastating in its condemnation of usury, the immorality of usury. And yet, in your promo, you mentioned Chris Dodd is trying to get a bill passed that would cap interest rates. You know, where is the Christian right? Where are the Christians? Where are the Jews, for that matter? Or the Muslims? At least the Muslims, in their religious practice, don’t believe in interest as a principle, but the idea that we’re jacking up credit cards to 30, 35—this is loan sharking. And we can’t even get a bill passed through Congress that would cap interest payments.

The other thing is, their rationalization is they’re somehow saving the economy. It’s the old blackmail thing. They ruined the economy; they got the legislation, the radical deregulation they wanted, that permitted them to become too big to fail—Citigroup and these companies; and then they turn around and say, “If you don’t throw all this money at us, the economy is going to go into the Great Depression.” But they haven’t solved the main problems. Mortgage foreclosures this month are higher than they’ve been in ten months. We have the commercial housing market exploding, you know, apartment building rentals exploding, going into mortgages. And so, you know, they are not dealing with the fundamentals. What has happened is an incredibly expensive band-aid was put on this. And these people don’t even have—they’re not even embarrassed.

I recently started drinking a beverage called "Reed's natural energy elixir" which has 100 mg Camu Camu in it along with other herbs such as ginseng, green tea, acai, goji, etc. I noticed my dreams started becoming more vivid, noticeably weirder, and that I was remembering them better (most of the time I don't remember them at all) so I knew it was something in this energy drink. I have only found anecdotal evidence of people talking about the same effect on a dream forum: here

The testimony of the posters in the above link claim to be using straight Camu Camu berry so it seems that in an of itself is enough to affect dreams, though there may be a synergistic effect going on with the other herbs.

It is also supposed to have anti-depressant effects:

http://www.wholeworldbotanicals.com/herbal_camucamu

I don't know if it rivals calea z. in this field but it is apparently a lot harder to grow. It sure as hell tastes better.
Although political views have been thought to arise largely from individuals' experiences, recent research suggests that they may have a biological basis.
We present evidence that variations in political attitudes correlate with physiological traits.
In a group of 46 adult participants with strong political beliefs, individuals with measurably lower physical sensitivities to sudden noises and threatening visual images were more likely to support foreign aid, liberal immigration policies, pacifism, and gun control, whereas individuals displaying measurably higher physiological reactions to those same stimuli were more likely to favor defense spending, capital punishment, patriotism, and the Iraq War.
Thus, the degree to which individuals are physiologically responsive to threat appears to indicate the degree to which they advocate policies that protect the existing social structure from both external (outgroup) and internal (norm-violator) threats.

A stranger told me about his first Ayahuasca event. Bare in mind this guy lives in the inner city in a one room affair with no stove etc. He has at his disposal a slow cooker, a microwave, and a rice cooker. For this event he used Psychotria viridis (Chacruna) and Banisteriopsis caapi (Yellow Ayahuasca Vine) purchased from a reliable source.

He thought he would present it in Erowid style and in real time and unedited. The purists among you may be appalled by some of the prep techniques or things like the food eaten etc but bare in mind this is the stranger's first event and of course much more research (and practice heh heh) is in order.

The stranger is a 140lb (63.5 kg) Caucasian male (honky chauvinist pig) with chronic pain resulting from Lupus (hence at least residue amounts of Vicadin, Oxycodone, apirin etc in the system). The stranger's also a heavy coffee drinker and a smoker. (yeah yeah I know just shut up).

Anyway, as always, any feedback very much appreciated. Okay, so here's the journal, unedited:

Nov 14

17:24 Aprx 1 oz caapi, 4 mugs water slow cooker covered.
19:18: Uncovered to mash up roots. Pleasant odor. Recovered.
22:38: Uncovered, added lemon extract. Tea colored.
23:18 Re-covered.

Nov 15
00:16 Uncovered
10:10 Turned off heat.
10:20 Poured into mason jar. About 20% of original liquid left. (¾ mug).
Total cooking time: 17 Hours

Cleaned out slow cooker.

12:00 Put 1 oz viridis and 4 mugs water in slow cooker covered.
18:18 Un-covered
21:32 Turned off heat
Total cooking time: 9.5 hours

Nov 16

20:00 - 20:30 Ate Tuna sandwich, pizza, whoppers, apple

Nov 17

00:00 Cappi mixture: color of tea or light coffee. Drank half the mixture. Pretty tart with the lemon extract. Not a pleasant taste but not unbearable. About a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 where San Pedro was a 7. Originally planned to drink half and maybe get 2 doses out of this brew but not sure now. Only used one oz of cappi and don’t want to waste all the effort. Plan is to wait 20 minutes or so then drink the viridis.

00:06 Took another couple gulps large. Will probably try to drink it all. In for a penny, in for a pound.

00:13 Finished up brew. Does taste pretty nasty I must confess but still endurable, I hope.

00:15 Drank some water to help with any ‘purging’ event. Have trash can at hand.

00:20 A not unpleasant physical sensation, slight warmth. May be placebo as it seems a bit early for anything.

00:34 neighbor dropped by

00:40 Two gulps of viridis, again not a pleasant taste. About a 4 on the previously mentioned scale.

00:45 More huge gulps. Note to self, use much less water next time so as not to have to endure this taste for long. Hard to write as neighbor won’t stop talking lol.

00:49 More big gulps, neighbor talking about a stoned cat he had in the once upon a time.

00:53 Hints of nausea potential, not sick feeling, just a feeling that everything in my gut may come up at any moment.

01:06 Had to shoo the neighbor away so I could power puke in peace for a while Not the worst puking I’ve ever had. Not as bad as with Agaric for example. Light mescaline like high now. Progressing right along. Drank about ¾ of the viridis sludge, debating whether to drink the rest.

1:13 uh, I think I’ll be alright with the amount I got, coming on pretty strong now, getting pretty hard to type as you can imagine.

01:17 Pretty pleasant feeling now, think the initial rush or transition period is over. Bold colors patterns, body rushes etc. Playing chess or poker now might be out of the question.

01:26 Feeling fatigued but at the same time with a burst of energy. Feel like walking or something. Taking this at night may not have been the best plan.

01:32: Coming on stronger now, and in waves. Lots of cerebral stuff as well as body sensations. Will now try the long journey down the hall to see a guy about a horse.

01:34: Might take a while as I still seem to still be in my chair, slight nausea returning.

01:39 Contemplative inner space stuff going on now. My contributions to the Universe, my place in all this, that sort of thing. Still tired though. Might just be me. I’ll try some Guarna and coffee, that might help.

02:06 Still pretty pleasant effects. Was able to write some posts and chill on some music. Not up to chess or poker though. Effects seem to be subsiding. May try to drink the rest of that stuff. Future research will involve using much less water I’m hear to say.

02:18 Drank half remaining Viridis, will wait a few minutes and try to get the rest down. Not the worst taste in the world but not one that is likely to grow on me either.

02:22 Got most of the rest down. This may prove to be the stronger dose as this is thicker in settlements (that a word?). May be too long after the Caapi to have any effect. We shall see.

02:27 Got the rest down in small gulps. A little worse than sewer water but not as bad as, say, chewing on dirty socks.

02:33 Little dizzy, stomach mildly queasy.

02:46 Power purge, about 2-3 minutes of power puking. The thing about this is that once done “purging“ I immediately feel better. No lingering nausea. Should probably have drank some water after the last drink event though, would have made things smoother. Ah well, live and learn. And have I mentioned that next time I’ll use much less water in preparation? (Author’s Note: If you have a beard, paper towels on hand are a must).

02:51: back to the head, maybe some diuretic properties eh?

02:58 Well that was a most interesting stroll. May have to make it again here soon as now I need to take a crap. In answer to a previous thought, no, not too much time has passed since taking the Caapi as I definitely feel the onslaught of a new event here. More pleasant than the first one because of familiarity. Less stressful for the same reason. About the same or a little less in magnitude however. Trying to put off the crap run, maybe that will make a difference who knows?

03:03 Wait’s over I’m gone. Thought I could smoke a whole cigarette but nooooo.

03:15 Seems the event is tapering off now which makes this second event much less potent than the first so maybe the temporal distance from the Caapi did have an effect. Couple things I noticed though I’m sure these levels don’t represent all the plants have to offer. I’m sure this was just a first plateau event if you will. But anyways I noticed no audio events. The visuals were non frenetic. More of a slowly moving tidal event. Static though, not rotational like with Amanitas for example. If I were forced to draw analogies I’d have to lean more toward the LSD/Salvia side of the spectrum. What I call the metallic side. I’ll re-emphasize though that it’s probably true I didn’t experience enough to get the true flavor of the event. Much research is in order. I’m curious for example if one couldn’t just chew on some Caapi root for a time then make a swig out of the Viridis or Chaliponga?

03:29 Effects officially over. Feel good though, relaxed, in a good frame of mind etc. Think I’ll finish that cigarette now.

For a few months Edgar's been away to the USA on an experimental adventure so his mushroom growing was put on stand-by.He had dismantled all his set-up. Now he's been back for a little while and got back into it.He had one spore print that he saved before leaving and just today he put his fully colonized brf cakes in his re-built almost fully automated quantum shroomery system which is made up of a new improved quantum shroomidifier and a fruiting chamber and his old pillsbury shroomcubator. He still wants to expand it to multiple fruiting chambers and make it fully automated, but for now this will do.
It is all well and good realising that the whole universe is one giant, conscious wave experiencing itself subjectively, but what has that got you?
